'Gratefulness
in the character is like fragrance
in the flower.'
---- Hazrat Inayat
Khan.
When
our worries suddenly outnumber
our joys, when our thoughts become hurried
and unfocused, we can stop what we're doing.
Every
moment carries small surprises:
the movements of a spider traversing the windowsill,
the wind blowing leaves in spirals in the air.
Our
lives are full of gifts, if we will see them:
we have our bodies, our breath, our beliefs.
We
have a private collection of memories and dreams.
We
have the support of the earth under our feet,
the support of our mind to travel the past, the
present, and the future.
To
turn inward to appreciate these wonders is the
practice of gratitude, a nearly lost art.
Today I'll practice gratitude. By remembering
what I've been given, I'll discover new
treasure within myself.

"While everything around me is ever changing,
ever dying, there underlying that change is a living
power that is changeless, that holds all together,
that creates, dissolves and recreates.................
For I can see in the midst of death, life persists;
in the midst of untruth, truth persists; in the midst
of darkness, light persists.
Mohandas Gandhi.
